Meeting Tuesday, August 13, 2013 - My Sister's Place

From Maryann:

This upcoming meeting is one that is near and dear to me, and should be for all of us: Domestic Violence. The recipient of this year's Community Service quilts is a domestic violence shelter called My Sister's Place and a representative will be coming to the Pyle Center to give us a program that we believe is very important. They will share what a victim of domestic violence goes through, what the shelter offers them, and how their lives can improve.

No matter who your are, what your age, social status, career, or community you live in- at some point you will be touched in some way by domestic violence. This could happen to you, your daughter, son, (not just a woman's crime), neighbor, sister, Mother, etc. and it could change your life forever. Please make sure you come to this meeting and bring a friend, neighbor, relative, etc to learn this useful information. This is not to scare you, it's to make you and your loved ones safe! And as you know, Knowledge is power!

Note:
The program is a lecture-type with a question/answer session at the end, so there is no need to bring anything except your own drink.........However, I asked the shelter if they are in need of clothing and, of course, they said "yes". Remember, many of these women arrive at the shelter with only the clothes on their backs. The shelter helps them with new employment and business clothing to wear to that new job. So- if you could take 5 minutes and go through your closet, and bring in an outfit or two that maybe you no longer wear (new or like-new). I dont know about you, but I have several things in my closet with the tags still on that I have no intention of ever wearing!! This would be helpful to a fellow woman in need. This is not required but of course would be truly appreciated. Any sizes of clothing, shoes, or purses would be useful. Cactus Patchers thanks you in advance for your generosity. Giving to others less fortunate just plain makes you feel good!!
