Why do the challenge? To have fun, join in, polish skills, think out of the box, try a new technique.

Your quilt can be any shape but has up to a total perimeter of 100”.

Due at the April 14th meeting – we will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes and a gift for all that participate!

August 13 Meeting - Claire Victor Trunk Show

Ready to groan? Here’s some punny jokes that should do the trick:

• My friend composes songs about sewing machines. He’s a Singer-songwriter.
• I can’t remember any sewing jokes, I’m running out of materials.
• My sewing machine isn’t working properly. Not sure what’s wrong with it though, it just seams a little off.
• If your block isn’t working right, just try turning it around. Maybe it will work left.

If you don’t like those, come on over to the Pyle Adult Center this Tuesday at 6 PM for our August meeting. A few of our own award-winning quilters will host us for the night. Cindy will be our Master of Ceremonies and Claire will be doing a trunk show.

Happy! It's finally time for our Small Quilt Exchange! Bring your small quilt wrapped and ready for some fun!

• Requirements: whatever makes you happy! to fit perimeter 48” to 96” and made this year. 

Show and Tell!

• We ran out of time for show-n-tell last month due to the Motley Bazaar... therefore we are having a humdinger of a show-n-tell this month!
• Bring any from last month (if still in your possession)
• Bring new from this month!
• Bring your oldest UFO (if you dare!)

April financial reports were emailed to members... we were so successful with the Motley Bazaar we may not need a fundraiser for a while!

Christmas Party: Tuesday, December 8, 2015

It’s party time! Please join us for good food, friendly conversation, and a little holiday spirit. Guests are welcome at our annual Christmas party.

Tuesday December 8, 2015
6 pm to 8 pm
Pyle Center, Multi-purpose room (Tempe Library Complex)
Set-up 5:30 – 6 pm
Clean-up 8:00 to 8:30 pm

We are doing things just a little different this year. We are requesting that you bring an appetizer or hors d’oeuvre (think finger foods, although we will not require you to use your fingers).

If your last name begins with:
     A thru L something hot
     M thru Z something cold

Also, bring your chapter chair challenge Christmas panel creatio

• Using a Christmas panel, create a quilt focusing on borders to complement and enhance the panel. This is all about the borders!
• Guidelines:
• Christmas theme panel – may be multiple panels, an embroidered or cross-stitch panel. MAY NOT be “regular fabric”, fussy cut or otherwise
• As many borders as you need
• Any size from a hot pad to a king size quilt
• Preferably an original design but may also be a kit
• These creations are due in December and will be displayed at the December 8 Holiday Party where attendees will vote on their favorite. The winning creation will be awarded a prize. Let the Christmas season begin!!

SPRING MYSTERY BLOCK CHALLENGE

Clean out your 2-1/2" strips - bring at least 4 light & 4 dark (wof)

OR - think Spring -- get some Easter pastels (or any other combination you like - scrappy or color coordinated).

You will also need:

An 8" square piece of muslin

A 4-1/2" square blender fabric (something that will go with your other light & dark fabrics)

Small cutting mat

Rotary cutter

Ruler

Sewing machine

Basic sewing kit (thread/scissors, etc)

Vice Squad Night! Tuesday Feb 26, 2013

Your assignment is:

 1.Bring in 3 UFO projects
 2.Describe each UFO project to the Vice Squad.
 3.Then the Vice Squad will pick which UFO you need to finish by the end of the year!
 4.You must commit to completing this UFO, by the end of the year, by signing your name on the dotted line.
 5.The other 2 UFO’s you can keep, donated to another Vice Squad member, or sell off it to the public.
 6.Once the year is ended, we will have the Vice Squad Judge for the best of completed UFO. Ribbons and a gift card will be awarded.

No Shirt Sherlock - February 12, 2013

Join us at the next meeting of the Cactus Patchers, at the Pyle center for an evening with that quilt slueth, Sherlock Half-Square. 

Sherlock has some clues for you if you'd like to help  solve the "No Shirt" mystery. They involve some shopping, try the local goodwill, salvation army,hubby's closet.... 

Seek out 7 men's shirts, preferably x-large to max out the fabric available. You'll need to find 2 light, and 5 darks. Sherlock warns that this may not be easy, as men are know for wearing really boring colors and patterns, :). Your shirts should be 100% cotton, and similar weight. Ensure the fabric isn’t too worn, and has good body. It should feel like good quilting cotton. Wash (if needed) and iron the shirts with starch or best press.  

You'll need to bring shirts and:

* Good sharp scissors
* Rotary cutter with a NEW blade* Basket for holding scraps you’ll deal with later* Long ruler – 6.5” x 24.5”
* Small ruler – 6.5” x 6.5”
* Cutting mat

Sherlock will guide you in turning the shirts into a nice throw size quilt. Tuesday night, we'll be cutting up, and instructions for sewing will follow here on our blogspot.
